Why Do People Travel?

It’s a question we ask our students, and they give some oversimplified, lazy answer, like: “to see new places.

And while that isn’t incorrect, it also doesn’t even begin to provide an answer.

I think, if we really try to analyze it, that probably would be the worst answer to give.

This is all my opinion of course, and if you disagree,

then feel free to erase all memory of my words from your mind.

It may seem like a loaded question, and I guess it kind of is.

We travel for a myriad of reasons: To find love. to feel ourselves again, maybe for a new job or college.

We leave our comfort zones because we feel uncomfortably stuck.

Well, I’m surmising here, or projecting from my own experience.

We travel to remember, to remember who it was we dreamed ourselves to be.

To remember how small our lives are in the vast magnitude of being.

And by small, I don’t mean insignificant.

And by lives, I mean the 9-to-5, the monotony of the lies we tell ourselves,
